Honors GED Gains Wider Recognition and Rewards

Receiving
the Honors GED certificate begins to offer significant advantages and
opportunities for motivated and independent learners. Online Career Advancement
develops comprehensive honors GED program.

General
Educational Development (or GED) tests are a group of five subject tests which, when
passed, certify that the test taker has achieved high school-level academic
skills. To pass the GED Tests and earn a GED credential, test takers must score
higher than 60 percent of graduating high school seniors nationwide. The American
Council on Education (ACE) is the GED developer. The GED test is never
available online. Test preparation is available online.

GED certificate holders, and potential GED test
takers, are beginning to chat in forums about the honors GED credential. Particularly,
employers and academic institutions are beginning to recognize and reward holders
of Honors GED certificate holders in recognition of the extra effort necessary
to achieve high scores. Accordingly, potential GED recipients are taking note
as they learn more about this Honors GED opportunity.

GED certificates are awarded by State Departments of
Education. Many states award test takers who score an average of about 650 a GED
certificate with a gold seal indicating that they have achieved honors status.
Colleges and universities are increasingly offering scholarships to applicants
who hold an Honors GED; for
example, Southern State Community College, in Ohio, offers Honors GED
recipients a scholarship of $500.

According to the ACE 2007
GED Testing Program Statistical Report, nearly 50% of GED testers take the exams for a sense
of personal satisfaction; they do not have to take it to satisfy employment,
military, or education goals. Online Career Advancement (OCA) has developed an
online Honors GED Program as an option for the self-motivated who would appreciate
an advanced understanding of the relevance of GED tests subject matter to
everyday life, education, and professionalism. The program offers an
interactive environment with additional courses, numerous supplemental resources
and references, several levels of support, and a custom certificate of
achievement.

Leonard Cox, lead developer for the OCA Honors GED
Program notes, We believe that people who are motivated and enthusiastic about
learning should have incentives to motivate them to achieve their best…for many,
the Honors GED provides such an incentive.

A
primary part of OCA’s mission includes offering the GED Honors Program during
the summer of 2010 to the most motivated, enthusiastic, and independent
learners.

There are a lot of GED test preparation
program students who don’t even know that there is such a thing as an Honors
GED certificate, said Professor Cox. OCA’s research has determined that, most
GED training program providers are not aware of the Honors GED certificate. Online
Career Advancement is corresponding with the American Council on Education and individual state departments of education
to determine the national extent of the Honors GED credential and will enhance
its program accordingly.

information about the Honors GED Program can be obtained from the main website
