Dog Lovers Dating Or A Free Personality Test - Which Will You Choose?
It has to be said that sometimes dating sites members’ profiles are less than accurate. Some members lie about their height, age, weight, interests or their personality and others just lie about everything! Thankfully and just to put this into perspective the majority don’t lie - well at least not about everything - usually just their age and contrary to popular belief I have found that men are just as guilty as women here!
But then as one very attractive lady said to me when I discovered she was four years older than the age that was on her profile “Everyone lies about their age - don’t they!” I was dumfounded especially since she was an ordained minister - hmm perhaps that was a lie too?
However from my personal dating experiences I have observed that many people just don’t understand themselves. So sometimes the kind, sensitive and gentle creature you had hoped to meet for coffee changes into a selfish, insensitive and loud mouthed bore that you would prefer to be seen out and about without rather than with. One day I intend publishing a book about my dating site memoirs - you have been warned! In the meantime let me regale you with one or two dating tales (all true) of the unexpected.
A forty-five year old woman went to meet a forty-five year old man and discovered he was actually eighty-five years old and wore a wig. But he had added a picture to his dating profile she mused and he looked much younger on that. All was revealed after the first few minutes - he had added a picture of his son to his dating profile! Luckily the lady in question was a counselor so she very tactfully said at the end of their meeting “I’m really sorry but I don’t think we’re compatible!” Completely unaware of the enormity of his deception the said gentleman replied “But why?”
Then another unfortunate lady (I’ve met one or two) went to meet her date in a car park but looking around she couldn’t see the tall (he had said he was 6ft) handsome man she was expecting but she did notice a very short man (about 5’ 2”) waving to her and calling her name who of course she didn’t recognise. At first she was puzzled - was this a long lost friend or relative, surely it couldn’t be her date could it? And then it dawned on her - he had lied about his age and suddenly her mind was full of dark thoughts about putting him on a mediaeval wrack and stretching him to the full 6’ that he had promised!
At any rate from these tales and others it is quite clear that people who misrepresent themselves either deliberately to gain approval or unwittingly because they don’t understand themselves will only lead to disappointment for everyone and if you’re looking for true love then first and foremost your dating profile must depict the real you so it has to be factual. Downright lies are easily fixed - just tell the truth! Not understanding you however is perhaps a more difficult proposition. So how can you be sure that the personality you’re describing is yours rather than that of the person you’d like to be?

Niche dating sites such as those catering for bikers, Muslims, vegetarians and dog lovers work on the basis that birds of a feather flock together and you may find this concept more appealing and effective than trying to match your personality with someone else’s on one of the big mainstream sites.
Certainly if recent industry figures are anything to go by these niche sites are growing very rapidly whilst the large mainstream dating sites stagnate - perhaps indicating that people have become disenchanted by the big sites and are seeking something new and more effective in their quest for a soul mate!
