Derr Designs Visual Elements for Plays in Broadway’s Pearl Project
Visual images created by
internationally exhibited artist David Derr of D2 Studios will be
prominent in original plays that honor the works of award-winning
Filipino-American playwrights. The Pearl Project Theater Festival will
have a limited engagement at the Clurman Theater in New York City from
July 6-July 25.
These unique theatrical
offerings include two
full length productions and two one-acts in repertory. All are world premiere events
produced by Diverse City Theater Company.
Mr. Derr has been
the creative director for DCT since its inception five years ago. He worked closely with artistic director
Victor Lirio discussing the main dramatic arcs of the plays, then
creating images that would convey the essence of each of them.
“I tried to capture the
content and message in each production of this exceptional series. I wanted to do justice
to these gifted artists,” commented Mr. Derr. “At times, it was a daunting
task.”
Mr. Derr employs a wide cross
section of artistic disciplines including traditional and digital
painting, mixed media, assemblages and photography. His works have
recently been displayed at the European Council of International Schools
in Nice, France; and Art Expo in New York City.
Mr. Derr has won numerous
awards including: the Adobe Digital Imaging Competition, International.
Digital Mural Competition and NY Art Director's Club. He has been
featured in Gallery and Studio Magazine, Photoshop User, and Digital
Fine Arts Magazine as well as numerous online exhibitions and
websites.
Digital representations of Mr. Derr's licensed properties are
available upon request.
