Austin in Hell's Kitchen
Austin in Hell's Kitchen? Well, why not. Not Fade Away recording artist Tim Young has taken up a monthly residence at the Bull Moose Saloon located at 354 W. 44th street in midtown. Unlike the stage at say Austin City Limits, Bull Moose has no stage or banks of lighting instruments. But where the two do coincide is the production of great Rock n Roll. The provider here is also different and that difference is Tim Young.Tim is steeped in the grand traditions of Rock n Roll. You can read that as classic rock if need be. And being so 'steeped' the music that sings from the tiny PA, Kustom amplifier and Martin guitar bring the essence of this tradition to the foreground; and in very sharp focus. OK, you can read that as "The Real Deal."Tim regularly features great songs from his two most recent releases. The album 'Red' from 2005 and most recently, 'The Cost' from 2008. Both released on the Not Fade Away label. Fan favorites include the titles: Work Today, Renegade, Kerouac and The Cost. Also a decidedly rocking cover of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues.
This past Sunday, the 16th, brought the arrival of a splendid Spring evening and so the door to the Bull Moose sprung open, the Rock n Roll of Tim Young spilled into the streets and an invigorated crowd tumbled into the "Austin" of Hell's Kitchen to witness and hear just how much alive Rock can still be.
Hell's Kitchen is a neighborhood buzzing with actvity. Many new resaturants and bars are popping up all along ninth and tenth avenues in the forties and fifties. Adding exciting original Rock n Roll to this mix is just what the 'doctor' ordered.
